Re: [Evergreen-general] Minors and Self Registration

2024-04-02 Thread Diane Disbro via Evergreen-general
We require a DOB to be entered in the online registration form. We don't
verify that the DOB entered is correct. Our online form is used to create
Internet Only accounts. We don't create these accounts for minors.

In order to check out physical materials, patrons must bring photo ID to
the library. Parents must sign for minors.

[Evergreen-general] Circulation Coordinator position opening

2024-02-01 Thread Diane Disbro via Evergreen-general
Good morning -

Scenic Regional Library, headquartered in Union, MO, is looking for a
Circulation Coordinator to fill the position when I retire in April. I have
worked for Scenic eighteen years, evidence that it is a good place to be!
Administrative staff members are energetic and forward thinking. We are one
of seventy-six libraries in the state that belong to the Missouri Evergreen
Consortium. We joined in 2014, two years after the consortium's founding.
MEC is a resource sharing consortium. Our patrons have access to over five
million items.

The Union/Washington area has all the services (including shops and
restaurants) you need and we are forty-five minutes from St. Louis and all
it has to offer. The job posting can be found here.

Re: [Evergreen-general] Claims Returned Item Status?

2024-01-26 Thread Diane Disbro via Evergreen-general
We don't use Claims Returned/Claims Never Checked Out. Patrons see those
items in their online account and call to say, "I told you I returned
that."

After the patron and library have made a thorough search, we will forgive a
Claim one time. We mark the item Lost (if it hasn't already gone to bills)
then use the payment type Forgive so that we have a record of what
happened. The item is now in Lost status so it isn't holdable and will be
deleted according to our timeline. If the patron makes another Claim, we
gently explain that we have already forgiven one Claim and can't forgive
another. The patron needs to pay the bill.

Libraries can also enable settings that bring items home when their patrons
place holds, overriding the holds queue.

Some people are more nervous about change than others. That's o.k. But the
benefits of resource sharing are fantastic. My consortium shares over four
million items!

Re: [Evergreen-general] [EXTERNAL] RE: Does your library manage Book Group Kits via Evergreen?

2023-09-13 Thread Diane Disbro via Evergreen-general
I am watching this discussion. We have handled book club kits in a variety
of ways over the years. One way was putting the kits into the Booking
Module. Staff then created reservations for patrons. Didn't work because
staff couldn't remember to include a buffer period in the reservation and
there were issues with the Booking module. Improvements may have been made
to Booking since then.

Now, people contact the staff person in charge of the kits to reserve them
for specific dates. The kit is checked out by the moderator. Each individual
copy has a barcode and an RFID tag and is checked out either to the
moderator or the individual taking the book out of the library.

[Evergreen-general] computers for those who have never used one

2023-08-11 Thread Diane Disbro via Evergreen-general
Ideas needed!

1. Do you know if anyone is developing a simple computer that libraries can
make available to patrons who have no idea how to use a standard computer?

2. What help do you offer to patrons who have no idea how to use a
computer? Computer classes are nice but don't meet the needs of the patron
who came to us recently, crying, wanting to send money to her daughter who
is in prison. Do you allow staff to fill out forms with personal and bank
information? Do you allow staff to handle patron phones to print
wirelessly? Or do you advise the patron to bring someone with them who can
take care of the personal business?

Thank you.

Re: [Evergreen-general] Ways to handle shelving location names?

2023-08-11 Thread Diane Disbro via Evergreen-general
Missouri Evergreen is in the same situation as Bibliomation. Over a
thousand shelving locations for sixty-five libraries. Each member library
creates its own shelving locations. Reporting circulation by target
audience.to the State Library each year is a challenge.

Pros:
Each library can do what they think is best for their library. Some
libraries use neighborhoods (book store model) and others use traditional
shelving protocols. Some have separate large print sections and some don't.

Cons:
Other libraries don't know what the shelving locations describe. A shelving
location of "Sunshine Superman" means something to the owning library but
nothing to me. Will something in that location be appropriate for my patron?
The State Library report has a margin of error (guess work). Is Sunshine
Superman adult, teen, or children?

Good luck. If you tame the beast, share your plan.

[Evergreen-general] curbside module

2023-06-20 Thread Diane Disbro via Evergreen-general
Good morning -

A library in the process of migrating to the Missouri Evergreen Consortium
would like to talk to a library currently using the Curbside module. I
don't think anyone in MEC is. Is there someone in the larger community
using it on a regular basis who is willing to talk to this new member
library about it? You may contact me off-list.

Thank you!

Re: [Evergreen-general] Evergreen-general Digest, Vol 35, Issue 22

2023-06-12 Thread Diane Disbro via Evergreen-general
There are no bills to void. We tried marking it Lost to create a bill that
could be voided to remove the item from Other/SpecCirc. No bill was
created. The current status of the item is both In Transit to the lending
library and Checkedout in the patron's Other/SpecCirc.

The library where this happened is going to submit a helpdesk ticket to
Equinox.

I am going to search for existing bugs!

Re: [Evergreen-general] How do you handle placing temporary ILL items on hold?

2023-01-04 Thread Diane Disbro via Evergreen-general
We have a dozen barcode numbers that are used and reused for ILLS. The ILL
clerk adds title and author and format to the ILL record, attaches the
barcode to the ILL strap, and places a hold for the patron. She checks in
the barcode which triggers a transit to the patron's pickup branch. When it
is checked in at the pickup branch, the patron receives an automated
notification. The owning branch is HQ so when the ILL is returned and
checked in, it is routed back to headquarters where the barcode is cleared
for its next use and the ILL is returned to the lending library.

Re: [Evergreen-general] Report

2022-10-25 Thread Diane Disbro via Evergreen-general
Hi, Brandi -

I ran this report
[image: image.png]

Found in Shared Folders > ME Reports > Library Circulations > Lists

I selected one of our branches
dates between our migration to Evergreen and today
 Adult DVD shelving location
 circulated more than 10 times
[image: image.png]
The resulting report is attached and shows that "Halloween 4" is the most
circulated movie at that location - 28 times.

I could have selected all of Scenic to find the Adult DVD most circulated
in the System.

If someone sees a flaw in this process, please do say so!

This is great! When I was testing the feature and added patrons to groups,
it was NOT possible to see the group membership in the patron's account. I
just checked the live server and you are right! I can see groups that

[Evergreen-general] How to see the number in a list ??

2022-04-05 Thread Diane Disbro via Evergreen-general
Good morning -

Does anyone know how to make the number in a list visible? Once the number
of items in a list reaches triple digits, this is what I see. This is in
the View Holds screen of a catalog record.

No amount of hovering over the number or removing columns or decreasing the
size of the screen makes the last two digits visible.

I haven't been able to find a bug for this.

Thank you.

Re: [Evergreen-general] Evergreen Booking Module

2022-03-18 Thread Diane Disbro via Evergreen-general
Hi, Courtney -

I will forward this request to our staff that monitor our Booking
offerings. We use it for book club kits, STEAM trunks, and other children's
materials. We are currently in 3.6 and are updating to 3.8 next month. The
booking module isn't reliable in 3.6. It allows overlapping booking.

Good luck!

Re: [Evergreen-general] Planning the next EG Offline Interface

2022-03-14 Thread Diane Disbro via Evergreen-general
Occasionally, staff can't get offline to connect from the desktop shortcut.
Then they use an Excel sheet. I'm not sure what is going on when the
connection to the shortcut fails. Anyway, we appreciate the work everyone
does to improve an already great product.

the hold queue of items with age protection but not be able to exceed the
number of holds allowed by their home library?

[Evergreen-general] patron permission groups

2022-01-31 Thread Diane Disbro via Evergreen-general
Good afternoon -

Missouri Evergreen currently has nineteen patron permission groups. We are
working on reducing that number. We understand that permission groups are
set by the consortium and cannot be customized for each library. But is it
possible to limit the perms seen by staff at individual libraries to the
permissions that should be used at that library? My library uses three
permission groups but can see and select all nineteen. Staff go rogue and
select perms that shouldn't be selected.

Thank you.

Re: [Evergreen-general] Old Barcode/Username Change

2022-01-27 Thread Diane Disbro via Evergreen-general
And I appreciate the opportunity to ask questions about this! Some of our
patrons don't want to replace lost cards because they have set up accounts
with OverDrive and don't want to have to start over. If they DON'T need to
start over, we can tell them to continue to use their old number for their
username.

 Hello Everyone,

We contacted library directors individually on Friday with information
on the issue some patrons were experiencing logging in through the OPAC.
In short, older barcodes that were saved as their usernames needed to be
changed to their current barcode in order to gain access. Today we have
globally changed all the affected patrons to have their usernames reflect
 their current barcode.

We produced shared buckets for each library to keep track of the
affected patrons for your records. If you would like your shared bucket
ID, please email me off list.

Thank you most of all for your patience during this situation. A
reminder that when you are replacing a barcode, please replace the username
if the username isn't set to a unique field that the patron requested.

If we don't reset the Username to match the new patron barcode, will the
patron be able to continue to use their eResource accounts with the old
barcode and not have to create a new account and begin again placing holds?

We have seen the same issue at random workstations. I don't understand all
of the details that Bob gave. I just know that on the affected
workstations, we have to refresh to get the Evergreen page to load. One

davesappliances.co.za/etsoluta/estmolestiaeharum

You can use action triggers to send emails and/or SMS text messages to a
patron when a hold is cancelled, and you can also use them to add messages
to a patron's account that they see in the OPAC.

You can set different messages based on the triggers
"hold_request.cancel.expire_holds_shelf" (they didn't pick it up in time)
or "hold_request.cancel.staff" (the hold was cancelled by staff).

You can see the wording we use for ours at:
https://pines.georgialibraries.org/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=circ:notification-wording#hold_cancelled_shelf-expired_email_notification

[Evergreen-general] See yesterday's pull list?

2021-11-03 Thread Diane Disbro via Evergreen-general
Good afternoon -

Here's a wild idea. Wouldn't it be great if we could see yesterday's pull
list? Then you could see if your patron submitted a request that targeted
one of your items while you were closed then the hold bounced to a
different library before you reopened. The hold was placed on Saturday. You
were closed on Sunday. By the time you get to the pull list on Monday, the
hold has moved to a different library. If you could look at Sunday's pull
list, you could see items requested by your patrons that may no longer be
targeting your item.

Let me know if I'm missing something.

Thank you.

Hi, Jordan -

This is clever!

I have a couple of questions.
1. What is the goal for having all family members on one account?
2. Does Grouping not give you what you need?

Drawbacks:
They will share checkout and fine limits.
There will be no privacy.
