This instruction has been in arinstall script as long as I can remember. They mean that you need to manually edit the script that automatically start arsystem if the server restarts. The startup file is probably in /etc/init.d/arsystem. A better solution is to link /etc/init.d/arsystem to

For outgoing mail you will need to configure Sendmail. Run a ps -elf | grep -i sendmail. This will search the process table to see if sendmail is running. If it is, you're good to go unless you need some site-specific tweaks for your organization. You may also check out the startup script by

If there is an smtp gateway configured in your environment, you can use that. Exchange, sendmail, etc.; it doesn't really matter what it is. If there is not a public gateway, you can use something locally, e.g., sendmail. Those are for outgoing messages. pop3 is a mail delivery protocol for
