Hi,
This should be an easy question.
In my newly remodeled media room, I would like to have the following
set-up:
1. Apple Macbook
2. Airport Extreme Base Station (802.11n version, because I will use
iTV)
3. Hard drive with music connected to AE.
Now, I don't have all the pieces in
Hi folks - had a crazy idea last night, hows about replacing my Meridian
analogue setup (556 24bit DAC/502 preamp/557 power amp) with a pair of
DSP5000's (or 5500's but I think these are still a bit costly on the
used market!) fed straight from the SB3?
Is this feasible, has anyone here done

Yep, slimserver is OK with a network drive and yes you can rip onto a
network drive. Be aware however that when for any reasons (and there
are plenty) a wlan connection fials your rip may fail and you may or
may not notice it.
Furthermore there are many issues reported in the forum where apple
Maybe the solution, then, is to rip when wired and play music when not
wired.
Of course, this will change the path in iTunes and perhaps require a
library rebuild in slimserver.

SB3 / Inguz - Sony DAS-703ES DAC - Krell KAV-300i - PMC AB-1

Sounds feasible. The only drawbacks I can see are that the SB3 as
standard isn't the worlds greatest digital source. In addition, the
5000s have their own style of presentation, clearly very marmite. I've
heard them and didn't like them, but go check them out for yourself, you
may love them.
Hi Chinanico, glad you're liking it.
WAV is just fine. Actually it's the most CPU-efficient; if your music
is stored as FLAC then it goes through a decoding process first, before
processing, then gets re-compressed to FLAC afterward.
And -20dB gain to stop clipping is fine too.

I just received my DIP Classic a few days ago, its between SB3 and
Apogee Mini Dac now and makes a clear improvent. The digital edges

This approach has been discussed several times on the Meridian Board

I think the SB is an excellent digital source.
I spoke to some of the guys from Meridian at a hifi show last year and
they said they had loads of Squeezeboxes driving their speakers. It
seems a perfect idea.
You may need to be careful to get good 75ohm cables though - maybe
that's why people suggest DSP control units?

I use DSP5000s mkII. I did for a whilse connect them direct to the SB3,
via their D2 input (you can use D1 to feed from a controller for your
other sources). It worked well.
In the end though I am using D2 for direct connection to my 598 player

I've never heard of them. I will do some more research!

Hey Mike,
what do you mean by bridge mode and how does this effect bi-amping?
How much are the maridian? How much the Vandersteen? I read about atc

replacing my dali speakers. I am satisfied with them.

Well these things are £170 a pair..it all depends what you are after.
£170 is not a lot for a pair of proper active speakers.
Most (by no means all) people on this forum are using speakers that
cost 10x that and amplifiers that cost the same again.
I'd say for £170 they are probably a decent

No difference in sound quality either way. The only benefit to the SB3

nicely in a dedicated listening room. And for controlling it from
