I baffled by the low prices + spec are not to bad either, guess that
the hobby recorders and home studio folks wants good gear but don't

Ugly - but functional :-)

I agree, Phil. I've chosen a three way active plus an an active sub. So
you can go more than three way but it doesn't have to be in one box.
Many good subs are quite large so the separation can be useful.
I've heard Meridian and they sound great. However, I don't think

Found some old measurements of Transporter on HiFi News
http://www.milleraudioresearch.com/download2007/reports/apr07/slim_devices_transporter.html
It is around 1000ps (Ouch!)
What is it, do you know guys?
Is it a jitter via SPDIF inputs? Then I am not surprised (and I do not
care)..
Can anyone explain what is being recorded on the right channel in these
screenshots from the Inguz site?
I thought the idea was to playback a swept tone over the left and right
speakers in turn and record the results - why does the other channel
need to be recorded at all and what is in it?
As far as I can understand - not much. There's no standard for measuring
jitter Questions: where in the chain is it measured? What exactly is
measured? At what frequency is the jitter measured? And with what
equipment?
So comparing 2 jitter measurements is like comparing the proverbial
apples
Well,
for dCS Debussy it is much less..
I'm curious how these Transporter measurements were collected..

why a 5-way speaker is important to him. Is there something in
particular he is trying to accomplish or that has caught his

Hi Phil, I don't use Inguz tools any more, I use Audiolense now, but
from what I remember the right channel records the sweep which is
further used by the impluseprep to generate the inverse signal required
to calculate the impulse response and then the impulse response of the
correction filter.

Phil,
Sorry to break the news, but the TacT mic uses 9 volt phantom power -
Just to confirm though, when you compared the DACmagic to the Rega, you
did so via a USB connection from your laptop rather than the
optical/coaxial input, or did you use an S/PDIF output?
Whilst I'm not doubting that the Rega is going to be a better DAC I'd

the Tascam provides 48 volts. In all likelyhood you've fried the TacT

If so, you need to make a 9v phantom power cable like

Why so big difference?
Why SNR in stereophile is 120db, and in HFN is merely 107db? Both are

Who can explain me?
I just want to understand the measurements and from where the

OK I have been messing around with the Duet and tried my best to test it
as a transport by doing a fairly unscientific test using a Quad 99
CDP-2, which as some of you may know is a CD Player and DAC in one.
Whereas some are saying that keeping the SB in stock form will never

OK
I invested some more time:
HiFi News actually test much better than Stereophile: their
measurements are for full frequency range, not just for selected
frequencies like 1Khz
Hence, jitter of 800ps on 500Hz fails the jitter test..
Same also for SNR, the worst figures are around 8KHz, and
