first impression: I like the sound, but it
seems in some music slow roll off has a bit of a 'muddling' effect. In
another piece (track 3 of Amused to death) possibly the same effect
smoothes the girl's voice that tends to be a bit shrill. I certainly
will experiment further.

Also thanks Andy. I almost certainly won't hear the difference (aging
has a larger effect on perceived roll off I'm afraid). But it shows
very clearly that transporter buyers are not left in the dark! And mine
still sounds fabulous.

Again no. FLAC-compression is by design very asymmetric: it takes quite
some power to compress, but very little to decompress.

think?). Mine has always reported a voltage somewhere between 220-223V,
while in the transition from 220 to 230 volt we're here at about 227V.
Michael123 says that the transporter reports 237V, well ABOVE the
'real' 230 volt. Maybe there is a connection here?

The way you (both) describe it points to the degaussing (I used to call
it 'rattle'). QUite some time ago (1,5 - 2 years?) there was a bug that
caused it to degauss quite often. That's solved now, so it should not
occur very often.

BTW, I don't see the point of all this. I don't hear any difference
between streamed FLAC and streamed PCM (or WAV). And, frankly, I think
people who say they hear it should at least do a blind test to check

If you are using an unbalanced connection between the TP and the amp,
you can use the attenuators in the TP. When you use a balanced
connection, search the forum for the right attenuators (inline fixed or
variable, or even a completely passive 'pre-amp').

In my modest setup, I use the Creek Destiny integrated amplifier, which
can be used as passive attenuator or as active amplifier. Normally, I
just use it passively, but with some sources I can switch to active.
Best of both worlds. The Creek has only unbalanced outputs though.

I don't have that one. All my 24/88.2 files (I don't have many) are
from Linn. In the test I used a number of Barb Jungr's Every Grain of
Sand and a track of Mozart serenades.
Could there be a difference between the files of Linn and those of
Music Giants?

No, not through the speakers. It's strictly inside the box. So I suppose

I know. But I played those files with FW36 and with FW40. They sound
much better with FW40, so that's proof for me.
I also compared some tracks with the 16/44.1 versions. With FW36 the
16/44.1 files actually sounded better, now it's the other way around.
