Well, in fact, any dac in the market that costs more than 200$ beats
SB3. But nobody cares in making dacs under the 500$ tag anymore (except
Beresford, and some Chinese, of course).
Also, dacs in receivers have evolved a lot, the last three years.
Actually, even the Denon 1709 sounds (much)

I was looking at the Beresford purely as a headphone amplifier, as I
have read on other forums that a dedicated headphone amp can make a big
improvement.
I know that the Ms are limited but as a second system I think they

I didn't realize you were in the UK. Although the MS1s are the best in
the US at this price point, as they decrease Grados occasional Grato
highs, with the distribution and pricing channels outside the US, the
choice is really a no brainer. They should be much cheaper for you.
Just be aware they

I understand the desire to caution on the subject of how easily/not
easily it is to improve the undervalued Duet/SBC DACs, but I'm not sure
a strict price structure is the way to do it. A route many here take,
and I did too for over a year, is the $1K Lavry DA10. While I'm a fan,
it didn't

All, more or less, since there isn't much else you can do with a
DAC...
There -may- be some very minor differences in sound quality, and I know
there are some minor (but audible at least under some circumstances)
I certainly agree with the value of a blind test and thus is why I no
longer own the Lavry. It took over a year to test and when I did I was
surprised. That said, even when the difference is only in preference,
and not real levels of SQ, I've done enough DAC blind tests in groups

I'm not a big Grado fan, but the SR125s would be a major upgrade from
the PX200s.
If you go Grados and are deciding between SR80/SR125, I'd recommend you
consider the Alessandro MS1s also. Basically SR125 specs at SR80 prices
(if including shipping). Plus a slightly more neutral signiture. All
