Bah, based on a recommendation from Arno, I ran a test file transfer to the new disk. It was sustaining a write rate of 1004 KBps. Yikes. I removed the drive and ordered a new internal SATA 3GBps drive. In the mean time I reran the backup onto a temporary IDE drive and was able to backup 100 GB's
