In order to get the, £ , sign using the number pad, you have to hold down
the, Alt key, then while holding down the, Alt key press156 on the number
pad with num pad lock on. I'm sure that you know this, but, just thought I
would throw in the Alt key note for those that do not.
, there are
lots
of different signs and other symbols can be replicated this way.

Sometimes you need the, £, sign. Your suggestion is an option but, it can
also be mistaken as the, #, sign. The pounds sign looks like a fancy
backwards 3. Where as, as you know, the number sign, which looks like a
tiny TicTacToe, can be used for both the number pound signs in
notepad and generate the British pounds sign using
the numeric key pad. Then, place the PC cursor over that symbol and see
what character number JFW identifies it with.
