I'm so glad i had my DVR set to record Muscle Car today (well, every time it's
on) because Lou is working on cheap DIY bodywork. i think my Malibu has
exactly the same problems as the Pontiac (same year A body) LeMans on the show.
the older i get, the more i learn.

Dave i've got a 2 speed column in my 67, it was shifting all the way thru the
gears on my TH350, i had a local tranny shop build and install a 700R4 and i'm
still shifting thru all the gears on my column, you may want to switch to a
lokar column shift linkage.

They are from a '68. The piece in photo 3 screws on to the heater
box housing, and the part in photo 4 slips on to the photo 3 piece
and the other end connects to the Y vents for the defrost. I
thought I had given this info over on TC

All is good with the carb. I got the factory aluminum seal washer
for the inlet, cranked it down tight no more leak. The carb guy I
deal with said that the nylon gaskets are junk, on Holleys and

I bought a Quadrajet from a guy, the fuel inlet threads had been
helicoiled. I installed it on the car yesterday and it's leaking
fuel from the inlet. I've tightened the 1 nut as tight as I dare,
and it still leaks. It has a nylon seal washer on it and the end of
the helicoil may be
appears to be coming from the area between the
sealing surface on the carb bowl and the gasket on the inlet
nut. I'll try it when I have time just to see, though. Thanks,

Heres the result of research that Ive done
pertaining to smog controls on the 1968~1969 Big
Block powered Chevelles. First, a little legislative history:
In 1955, the Federal Air Pollution Control
Turn the rotor and tighten the nut with some pliers as you're turning
to seat the bearings. Back the nut off, tighten it with your fingers
and slip the cotter pin in. If it won't go in, back off the nut
until it does, don't tighten it.

There is a check valve in the accelerator pump circuit, I can't remember
exactly where it is. If the check valve is not seating, the fuel
doesn't get pushed up into the squirter properly. I'll get back to
you later on where the valve is. This is a Holley carb isn't

Sounds like a vacuum leak to me. Try disconnecting
your brake booster and plug the vacuum line. I've had a booster go bad and make
my idle go crazy.

I agree with the big vacuum leak scenario. I had a power brake
booster check valve come apart on my car, it looked OK until I
grabbed it, then I could see that it had split in two. Look for any
leaks in the big vacuum lines from the carb to the booster and to the
PCV valve.
