Block huggers and shorties are the same thing and are considered a 1/2 header. These headers are designed for streetrods and will not clear the crossmembers on our cars. Sanderson & others make full-length and intermediate (3/4) headers. BH or shorty header collectors usually end right arou

Mark, I have a 66 with a 4spd and a 454. I have Hooker Super Comp headers, and no dings, and they fit really well. The are pretty close to the steering column, but they dont hit it at all.   -Tim

Blazer-man     Well, speaking from years of owning chevys I can tell you heat shields are a good investment. I had the same problem with several cars and it went away instantly after adding the shield. Don't believe me? call "Mega torque" Starter and alternators in Kansas City 816-231-7032 .

Also, on my Chevelle, I have a remote starter soleniod, and its up on the firewall, so it doesnt get nearly as much heat as the starteranother option for those of you having a big problem with hot starters.
