RR's are normally used in small to medium sized implementations.
Confederations are normally used in large implementations. I imagine on the
lab they'll give some clue as to which one is required.

My choice was OpenBSD on a cheap PC (Pentium 200, 48MB RAM). With that, I'm

I'm going to make an informed guess here. Cisco serial interface

Well if you have one routable ip address, you'll need to do nat, which'll
probably imply 2 ethernet interfaces. If you have more than 1, this implies
a dmz and 3 ether interfaces. Many folks use the 2514, perhaps the 1605
would work also for the 2 ether int solution. The openbsd reported

Hi all,
I plan to getting one DSL line and one dynamic IP address from an ISP. Also
I will be connecting about 10-15 stations to the DSL line. Equipments that I
will be getting includes:DSL modem, router, and a HUB. DSL is not my field
of expertise. My question is, how to configure a network in
Good question. I don't claim to be an expert on BGP and will not comment on
the advantages and disadvantages of RR/Confeds in large/small environments.
I've only config'ed BGP once in a prod net. Seems to me tho that there is
an important distinction between the two as they might pertain to the
Ready of not, like it or not, it appears to me that MPLS is the Next Big
Thing in networking. I'm starting to hear customers ask about it - large

Why? Because it's more secure, and I don't want to have to depend on access
lists on my routers for security
MPLS
I also prefer OpenBSD on a cheap pc I am actually using it on a p166
with 80 meg of mem. It is great and serve's all my needs including
Intrusion Detection using snort. I make snort log to a MySQL database on
a totally different machine. I have written a howto that will walk you
step by step
the specs look pretty good, and I have an opportunity to pick up a new 5XP
box for $250. legally, btw.
also - any thoughts on their high end stuff? contact me off line if you
think this is irrelevant to the list.
thanks.

Hi all..
I have PXE clients in one vlan and 2 netware servers in another vlan out of
which one is DHCP server and another oneis proxy dhcp server .
As long as I keep clients in same Vlan it works fine but as soon as I take
them to different Vlan there is a problem.
I have used Ip helper-address.
If you have the interfaces available, definitely use it for
both. There's no reason not to, and it allows you to have an
additional layer 3 device in your scenarios.

The size of the network does have a role when choose between RR and Confeds.
The BGP desgin for a POP is quite different than for the backbone, this is

POPs are better place for RR where the backbone is better off with something

I have used this command in a production environment for dial on demand

found that in my situation, the first channel kicked in quickly, but
because of the default five-minute interval, it took some time for the

Well, yes. If the POPs have different policies, confeds may be
useful. Otherwise, I think you'll find most
you will have to use extended accesslists to achieve this task. The
following is an example only..
access-list 100 deny tcp any any eq telnet
access-list 100 deny icmp any any
you can replace the first any with source ip address'es and the second any
with destination ip address'es and allow
Static routes can also be very effective at creating routing loops.
Sometimes when you don't intend them to.
Merry Christmas to all - enjoy the break if you get one.

I'm running 2.3.6 on Solaris 8 with no problems. However, it's a lab and
not a production environment. I do use it daily though as it is my TACACS
server for all my networking devices in the lab. Try moving up to 2.3.6 if
it's still available for download.
