I boot my MSFC2 in the lab off of slot0 and it works fine!! Get a
console connection on the sup and do a "switch con 15". Then do a
reload and see why it is failing.
If your MSFC is in the boot mode you do need to bring up an active
VLAN or you will never get the image off

I need to make an upgrade on the a 65094s MSFC2 due to sevral crashes I had

The problem is that the recommended image doesn't fit on the msfc's
bootflash. I tried to boot loading the image from the Supervisor slot0: , as

I see this message upon bootup on 85K router - "System INIT -
Insufficient memory to boot the image". I suspected the processor board
and replaced with the known good one. But still it keeps coming. Any

I have seen this message on other routers (26xx, 36xx). It means
that you do not have enough memory installed for this image. Try
another image and check your memory with "show version". Check
the memory requirements for your image in the "Software Center"
on cisco.com
Either

I have just confused a bit about how cisco box loading system image from
TFTP server. You can use command "boot system" to specify from where
you will load system image. When operating normally, cisco will load
system image from its flash memory, you also use the command "b
press a break key in the first 60 seconds and get
to rom monitor. You should be able to format and copy
an image from there.

I did my research before posting the question. I just could not find
anywhere on CCO says if the boot image has to match the main IOS, thanks for
your confirmation about that. To me , if I use any old boot-image, it may
not recognize some of the new cards, but as long as it brings up the
7200 boot images are a tricky thing. I'm not sure of your wording below but
the boot image is for the router to boot off of. After the router boots of
off the boot image then it loads the main IOS image. The big thing I look
for is if the boot image supports all the cards that are in the r
nd.

Cisco's TFTP server is not that bad. Just uncheck first two options when you
configure it (enable logging and show file transfer progress).
This a known issue.

That boot ROM is too old. It cannot recognize the 8MB flash module. You
need at least boot ROM version 5.2 in order to read the 8MB flash module.
The latest boot ROM is 11.0(10c) I believe. You can get these boot ROM from
Cisco.

Yea... the checksum is bad. Either your having errors in transmission or
your image is bad on the media your copying from. More likely its a bad
image as it happened three times.

I thought it used to be like around 6 or 7 MB but now checking it on CCO, it

As a matter of fact, Cisco 2500 is not compress image. You have to use
compress tool
like mzmaker to compress cisco ios image.
The size of the IOS image is much more smaller and it will fit 8M flash.
Be careful, you need to have enough memrory in your router. Becasue the IOS

not upgrade it's bootflash (it is still a pretty old 11.1.6)...
