i have downloaded the 2 iso-files from sunsite.uio.no and
checked the md5sums.
If i try to install Mdk 7.1 the installer aborts after
testing the resolution of x-window.
XF86_FB Problem. caught signal
I have tried the CDROM install and Network(NFS). Both failed.
Hardware: AMD K6
I downloaded with Win98 from ftp.sunet.com and windows added an extra .iso
to the end of the file (inst.iso.iso) - don't know if that made a
difference, I just renamed it and burned it without any problems.

Okay here's the latest. As was the case of Derek, if I compile ReiserFS
in static everything work (with DAC960 as a module or static). If I put
ReiserFS in as a module it crashes with the NULL pointer error.

I noticed this too. Ultra66 drives need 'Use DMA by default' too, and
without it they do not run to their full potential (or even close 4MB/sec
vs 20MB/sec on my system). So I guess the newbies will either have to
learn to recompile their kernels, or live with the rather poor
performance.

However sash-3.4-3mdk puts it into /sbin

I just installed Mandrake 7.1 last night. I have an AMD Athlon system based on
the Viper chipset. I turned on hard drive optimizations during the install and
when the system booted for the first time it hung hard while trying to turn on
the optimizations.

I reported this error (sounds like similar install steps, and it's the same
error message) during the 7.1 betas and did not get a response. Never did
figure out the problem. Here's my report:

get no graphic window and if I do install it in
text mode then the install script crashed after select locals. The
select window locals has no scrollbar.
