Okay here's the latest. As was the case of Derek, if I compile ReiserFS in static everything work (with DAC960 as a module or static). If I put ReiserFS in as a module it crashes with the NULL pointer error. I'm using 2.2.16 source from the rpm. Is their anything you guys would like me to try

I noticed this too. Ultra66 drives need 'Use DMA by default' too, and without it they do not run to their full potential (or even close 4MB/sec vs 20MB/sec on my system). So I guess the newbies will either have to learn to recompile their kernels, or live with the rather poor performance. _

I don't know if this was by design but... I just installed Mandrake 7.1 last night. I have an AMD Athlon system based on the Viper chipset. I turned on hard drive optimizations during the install and when the system booted for the first time it hung hard while trying to turn on the optimizations.
