Look at /lib/moules/2...mdk if there is a modules.dep If not try first to reinstall a precompiled kernel and look again. Check also your /etc/lilo.conf if it is updated with this new installed kernel. If not add them and do a lilo -v. I suppose it's not your first kernel you install ?

I too have been having problems with the new Mandrake. When I do a clean install it hangs during boot at finding module dependencies, once I do a ctrl+c it resumes boot, once booted I look in the /boot directory only to find nothing, absolutely nothing. Something is not right. Red Hat 7.1

Well, I changed aic7xxx with aic7xxx_old in /etc/modules.conf, then I deleted /boot/initrd-2.4.3-20mdksmp.img, regenerated it with mkinitrd /boot/initrd-2.4.3-20mdksmp.img --preload raid1 --preload raid0 finally riexecuted lilo, reboot and it seems to be ok: no more those timeouts.
