With the 6.5.2 and the latest 6.5.3 nightly releases you should not need to manipulate any of the service settings - the installer should do it. However I don't know how zonealarm impacts this. Which version are you using? Have you tried to uninstall, leave for a minutes, then reinstall.

i'm set up with slim on a quicksilver g4 with multiple external drives. it's pretty easy. surf the web for a symbolic link utility program that will make symbolic link folders. I think i found it on versiontracker and the utility(option to make a symbolic link) resides in the list of options
