I just got a RSP1A and am missing something here: if I connect my
receive antenna to the K3 RX In, then connect the K3 RX Out to the SDR,
what is the use of the tee?

I *am* using a homemade lug, as stated. It's neater than cramming 1" of
braid into the round barrel of a terminal lug. The braid lays flat right
off the screw terminal and onto the desk surface, no bunching into the lug.

Yes, it is a hassle getting a stiff copper wire on that little ground
screw. I use 1" braid with a strip of copper sheet folded and soldered
over the end and a screw hole drilled through-- basically, homemade flat
terminal lugs on the ends of the braid. Very easy to manage now.

pieces.
I'll be doing CW in any case. That's my prediction.

The ease of changing CW pitch in the K3 is indeed a great asset in setting
things up for best copy, and I have found myself using it quite a few times
as I am changing PITCH. Unfortunately, as it is now, when
PITCH is turned on the received signals are covered by the steady tone.
That makes it not very easy to find the optimum pitch for a signal under
current conditions.

I'll bet that if you had tried FT8 you would have worked them far more
easily and on more bands. That mode has an advantage of about 16 dB (40x

According to the KH1 people fully half of the FT8 callers are using the
wrong software or mode. I don't know if the guy I heard yesterday in the
CW portion of 40 meters was one of them but he was warbling away there
for a good long time; nice signal too-- s9+20db.

There are liquid cooling systems available for CPUs and graphics cards,

cooling a 1500 watt RF power amplifier but probably more analogous than
an airplane engine.

Regarding scan, I wish...
- scan rate could be variably adjusted during scan; the current COARSE
is often too fast and the FINE is too slow;
- could set a fixed dwell time; the current dwell time is random.
