Jim,
You can download the 5.38 file from
ftp://ftp.elecraft.com/K3/firmware/archive/.
Don't forget to download the corresponding FP and DSP files as well.
Hint, look at the release notes to identify the related versions of FP
and DSP firmware.

Hoping I'm not the only one who's ever encountered this.
I was installing 5.29 last nite...and then we had the power go off.
That computer was not on a UPS, so both computer and K3 took the hit.
K3 is now totally unresponsive and computer can no longer 'find' it.

I'm running I3 utils from both Win7-64 and from Ubuntu 12.04. At
38,400 bps, neither of them take this long (4400, 2200 sec).
Are you operating that serial port at 4800 bps? You could improve
your firmware load time by increasing it to 9,600, 19,200, or 38,400.

I am using my K3 with the internal transverter K144XV. Today I installed
the (beta) Firmware 4.58.
My problem: Entering any 2m- QRG, e.g. 144.300 by pushing on the front panel
"FREQ ENT" 1 4 4 . 3 0 0 "ENTER (AFX)" results in changing the K3 to
180.300 MHz
e.g. 145.525 results in 181.525 MHz ...

We're evaluating two candidate approaches for that and will pick the
best one for the next beta release.

Many of us thank you for allowing AM transmit thru the 13KHz
filter. As someone who doesn't expect to use AM, except when the
need suddenly arrives, having a filter slot for it was annoying.
Now I can move the 2.7 filter next to the 13 and have 3 slots
for SSB/CW/Digital.

Help
After I go to the firmware tab, if I click "Check Versions Now" the
utility will not proceed until the files are downloaded from Elecraft,
as there is nothing to compare. I do not get a loop of trying to connect.
Are you using version 1.12.3.28 of the utility?

Connect K3 USB FTDI cable direct to K3 and try the K3 update again.
It sounds like There is a P3 in there, that needs updating too, and has the
piggyback connection across to the K3 with the main connection to P3?
In anycase, If it is the later FTDI type usb-ser cable then this program
will

I recently upgraded to a Windows 7-64 bit HP machine due to the demise
of my Windows XP Pro laptop. The biggest problem I had was going from a
physical RS232 serial port on the laptop to a USB to RS232 converter. I
tried several failures before I hit on a solution that worked. It is a

Your post will probably produce a humungous volume of responses...I am
getting in early (12:33 AM 9/28). I have been using several machines
running WIN 7 both 32 and 64 bit with my K3 and have never had a problem
making firmware upgrades to the K3, the P3, and to the XG3. Normally I
use my 32 b
Has anyone on the list experienced problems with Win7 when attempting a K3
firmware upgrade?
My friend Aki ZL1GO has attempted the upgrade using his new Win7 computer
without success - no
problems with his old XP machine.
I have only XP, so I can't help him.

Thanks Steve.
Wayne uses this technique: current menu items are the union of the most recent
owners manual and firmware notes since the date of that owners manual.
Glad you are up to date! 4.51 is a significant release. There is some CW
decode change that should be improved in the next versio
Hi, Dick:
Thanks so much for the quick reply.
Of course, I didn't update the info in the cache so it only showed my
last upload (4.39). I
HATE getting old.
Both K3s updated to 4.51...smooth as silk.
Is there a list of menu items current through 4.51 or do I just print
the software update list
