You do need to setup up some of your devices in OS X. In Applications/Utilities
there is a program called Audio Midi Setup where you'd set up the connections

That is usually caused by a bad audio unit/vst plugin. Go to your
Library/Audio/Plug-ins and disable some of the plugins.
If Finale crashes, you can usually gleam what caused it by the crash log.

Problem with a dedicated device is cost. Nothing dedicated is ever cheap. A
music stand with a display in it would be over a thousand easy. That
MusicReader thing did just that (the hardware thing) and they pretty much seem
to be getting killed on the price/features compared to the iPad.

It works perfect as a music display. Ive been scanning books and
converting all kinds of stuff into PDF format for it.
