Whenever you compile a new kernel, you must then 'emerge alsa-driver' in order for
ALSA to work with the new kernel. Don't forget that you also have to tell it what card
you are using, and you'll want to check your configs. Once you have re-emerged

Hello list,
This is the first time I am installing gentoo. In the
past I've used RH and Debian. After getting a fresh
gentoo distribution I ran into a problem right at the
beginning of the installation steps.
When using lvm to create a volume group I get:
vgcreate vg /dev/ide/host0/bus0/target0/l

For a LVM partition it's type need to be 8e (LVM) not 83. Change it to
8e save out in fdisk, reboot and do your lvm commands again.

I do not know about such tools, but know the trick how to do it:

Hey all.
I recently got an 80G drive which I've installed and formatted with ext3, however I'm
having trouble mounting it so my normal user has read/write access to it. I can get
read access, but I want/need write access.
I know about editing my /etc/fstab, and I've tried so many different opt

First, point /usr/src/linux to the 2.6.0 kernel sources that you have. Second,
if you do this, you won't be able to boot any kernel other than 2.6.0
kernels.
Good luck.
