I installed a different set of CFG files, and my OZ server has been running
for 50 hours with 3 bots! That is a record, I can't remember the last time
it ran for so long.
It's the CFG files. Depending on what is in them, your server can crash
every hour on the hour, it can run and run and run.
You mean second highest, second only to getting hlds stable again, I hope?

This is not correct. I have a 4 port hub. One of the ports goes to a 10mbps
connection, the other 3 are 100mbps connections. The bandwidth from one
100mbps connection to another 100mbps connection is exactly what you would
expect, and is the same whether or not the 10mbps cable is plugged in. The
It won't make a noticeable difference - unless performance drops because you
are wasting ram on a ram disk when Windows itself is allocating ram to disk

A lot of these are in the docs...*cough* RTFM *cough*...
Some of them aren't, a few of them I use regularly - comments inline - I'm
sure our more experienced admins here could elaborate on a lot of these.
Some of them return vague values, some of them are ignored by my servers.

Your mileage will vary. With an actual 220K upload, I can run 6 players with
no problems, 7 sometimes and 8 really starts to lag.

I couldn't find 2.3.4, the most current on their site is 2.3.2. I've had
weird crashes ever since I've been running OZ. I thought I had it fixed, and
it would do it again. I did trace it to changes in weapons.cfg, but I could
never tell exactly what it was - especially when it would take a day
Not to mention it is extremely bad manners. Do you want to piss off your
players and drive them away? Play on your own server. The low ping gives you
a very significant advantage, and if you have any skill at all you will
likely devastate the other players.
Unless you suck - then the others
Just out of curiosity, what are your experiences playing on servers with
maxrate less than 6000? I've never noticed a difference, but I don't have a
lightning fast connection, either. Qwest DSL adds 30-40ms of latency per
trip. It's ironic, but if I use GameSpy or Kali to ping servers, I can get
I know, I know
My server is in the next room, and if I ping it via it's internal IP, it
pings at about 10 ms. The point I was trying to make is that if I ping it
via it's external IP, the ping has to go through the DSL modem, out into
Qwest Land, and then back again. *That* is the path that
This has absolutely nothing to do with my subnet mask - this has to do with
how Qwest has their DSL setup configured. I forget the setting they set on
their end, but it ends up contributing 30-40 ms of latency.

That sounds about right (more or less). I have 256
up (half what you have) and I can host 6 players with no problems. 7 is iffy,
and 8 is lag city.
If you can't run 12 players on 512 up, I suspect
you are not really getting that much upload. Test it at dslreports and see what

I've been playing with OZ, and I'm having a hell of a time keeping the
server running. I think it's the bots - the more bots, the faster the server
crashes. If I put 10 bots on the server, it won't run 10 minutes without
crashing. If I put 2 or 3 bots, it runs for longer, sometimes 5-10 hours.
Is there a way to inhibit this message from Win2000? When the server
crashes, sometimes it give me this message:

to restart the program
I'm using ServerDoc to restart the server when it crashes, but as long as

I posted this earlier, but AFAICT, it never made it to the list, so here

I'm set up the same way, and people have no problem connecting to my server.
How are they trying to connect? GameSpy, GSA, Kali ,and the miserable thing
built into Half-Life all work for my players. My ip on my server is
10.0.0.2, but people on the internet can connect just fine.

The older versions of OZ have the Rhobots built into it, and they work quite

Let me second this request! I run mostly non-valve
standard maps, and have quite a few unusual/rare maps cycle through my server.
One complaint I get a lot is that it takes too long to download the map, and I
loose a lot of players that don't want to wait 15 minutes or more to
Ah, I didn't know that! I tried adminmod with Severians, but it crashed the
server. I think I'll load up HLoH and adminmod and see how it works - I've
been wanting to use it, but it's always caused crashes in the past, but I've
never tried HLoH. HLoH is sounding better and better. Thanks for the
On their website they indicate that there are some problems caused by the
new patch and the SunLit. Does anyone know what exactly those problems are?
Are you using a modem? What was your ping like otherwise? I got those a lot
when using a modem, and I still get them from time to time on DSL - but
usually on a server that is lagging to start with. I don't think I've ever
seen it happen on a server that was pinging real good to start with.
OK, good deal, thanks for the info! While I hunt down resources, another
question: If some of these are TFC or CS stuff, does that mean that the map
that uses them is a TFC or CS map? I can usually quickly test that by trying
to run it on my server - TFC and CS maps crash real fast, as I don't
I'm adding several maps to my server, and I have the following files:
*.BSP
*.WPT
*.WAD
*.WAV
*.BMP
*.TGA
I know where to put the BSP and WAD files. I think the WAV files go in
HALF-LIFE\VALVE\SOUND. What about the BMP and TGA files? Where do they go?
Oh, hey, many thanks! Helps a lot. OK, I found some more :-)
*.MAP
*.JRF (I think these are jumbot files)
*.NFO (graphs directory?)
*.GIF (I think these go in the ENV directory)
*.PCX (likewise)
*.PRT
*.RMF

What is it in player setup that really effects this? You can adjust volume,
and that's it. I hear players that are surprisingly clear - impressively
clear, in fact. But those are rare. Many sound distored and badly broken
