Did you restart JOSM after enabling remote control? Did you use the https
option? (It should work either way). Do you have additional firewalling
software or an Antivirus suite that includes a firewall?

In JOSM you can use the 'Improve way accuracy' tool (w) to conveniently
drag those corners followed by 'q' to square the building. That is somewhat
less time consuming than redrawing (and it keeps the history). A validator
can choose to either do this, or to invalidate the task. It's probably a

You could use Overpass API. It can give you center points for areas (both
way and multipolygon). You could use those coordinates.
You can extract this information as CSV. Then read that into a spreadsheet
or Pandas or R or your own PostGIS table, of course.

He only started again about a day ago, due to a Mapathon happening nearby
to him...
Jo got distracted validating schools in Uganda and doing interesting stuff
with Python to add those to Wikidata as well. Or cre

Yesterday I created a formula to make it easy to add a node automatically
with the right tags in JOSM. This made the spreadsheet very slow though, so
I removed them again. You can copy/paste them to the rows you are going to
work with. I added a comment in the header column:

The buildings will have 2 sides parallel and 2 sides perpendicular to the
imaginary line passing through those 2 nodes you selected.
If you select a building which is not with 90 degree corners everywhere,
you will find there is more than one way/direction in which the new
building can be drawn.

The preset is a simple text file (Ok, XML). You download it, then you us
