My two cents opinion, since z/VM and zLinux can be IPLed from a DVD (by my experience) I see no reason why you could not IPL z/OS from DVD. Of course as mentioned above, you must format the correct files on the DVD. Beside documentation you might want to look inside a zLinux (REDHAT or SUSE) DVD
