I learnt Dacombe shorthand in Australia in 11th secretarial studies. Learnt
to type on an old manual too, but was never fast enough to move up to one of
the few electrics (this was end of the 70's). I think the school got its
first pc's in about 1981. A dear friend of mine worked for a bank and
Gosh, I remember paper like that in Oz, but white. It was in the public
loos. I remember one side was 'shiny' or 'slick' and not absorbent and
the other side was absorbent and 'matte'. As a little kid, it was quite
a weird sensation to use :-)

I find it depressing in late July to walk into a craft store that's

As I understand it, Beds lace gets it's inspiration from the Maltese
laces exhibited at the Great Exhibition of 1851. Machines couldn't at
that time manufacture facsimiles of it, so the designers of that area in
the East Midlands changed focus, so to speak. You see many bucks point
type fillings
There is a lovely pattern of wedding bells as a garter in Lace (80),
October 1995, p 30. It's a point ground pattern which has been adapted
from an insertion type piece designed by Jean Leader (Lace, (72),
October 1993, p19).
I adapted the pattern to add a footside, and made a length which I
stit
I forgot to add, that when 'learning' to sew in highschool in Oz in
1976/77, The Berninas were the sought after ones (forget what the others
were). My dear Grandmother in law had a Bernina which she gave to DH's
SIL - I sewed my wedding dress on it, and loved it.

Well, in answer to what we do on Christmas Day - it's part Christmas and
part birthday (just as well we're not religious, with all that to deal
with!).
In the past we've gone for a cruise around the neighbourhood to see some
of the lights - which the kids (now 9 and 6 1/2) enjoy - on the 24th.

I concur with Ruth about trying to get a toddler's fingers into the
correct holes. I couldn't with the first one, and couldn't with the
2nd, so they wore mittens. Didn't seem to affect the playing in the
nsow too much.
Now they're 9 and 6 1/2 and wear gloves.

many different types of "arthritis" - Rheumatoid, osteo, gout - to name
a few. I would think that treatment varies according to the type.

Just received my partially rain-soaked issue of PieceWork in todays
mail, and during a quick flip through, found an article on collecting
textile and needlework stamps. Some of the stamps include an Australian
one with the Batavia bobbins, and Swedish one with a lacemaker and

Depending on how the centre of the "flower" is pricked, either do a
whole or half stitch, bringing in the pairs (a la beds lace) and leaving
them out to make the tallies the other side. I don't have my copy of
that issue at my finger tips, and not sure which of the 4 issues it is
in, but tho

library I worked in, in Australia used this date protocol, and we
submitted data to an OECD database, and had to use that format, so

Sure it did, David. It's the only form of the nursery rhyme I knew
until #2 came home from the hospital when she was born, with a nursery
rhyme (gift of a local charity), and I read it to #1 and I had trouble
reading the different words. I still read it my way - and they love to
correct me! :-)
Noelene made my Day when she wrote the poem for me! I've never had a
poem written for me before :-) Both DH and mum reckon I should share it
with my surgeon :-)
(And I seem to have this wonderful notion that whilst I'm foot up and
non-weight bearing for the first 2 weeks post-op, that I'll mak

There's been some in our news, here in Denver, about the fires in BC the
last few days - I guess because we had such bad ones last year, they
tend to be a little more attention grabbing.
Hope all the lacers in areas affected by fires in BC and elsewhere (like
in Oregon) stay safe.

Just so you know - my mum's Liz Ligeti, and it's her fault that I'm

I think you want to try something like MS Access - it's a pretty slick
little tool, and fairly straightforward to use, and teach yourself to
use.
I taught myself with Access 1.0 many eons ago, and created my own dbs
for my bobbins and books.
Access's gone through many updates since 1992/3, b

Awards. And yes, parts were filmed in Colorado.
