You could try to get hold of some of that Scotch Tape that cartographers use
for sticking tracing paper to old maps and photographs. It's about 12mm
wide, opaque, and when you pull it off it doesn't leave any residue. It's

OK,
A few of questions:
If tables were used then,
Would the Lutenist be stood or sat.
How would the Lute be supported? With a strap around the neck?
If not supported by a strap how does the Lutenist stop the Lute from
sliding around? If you place a leather underneath to gain grip on the
table,
Hi,
Try this:
First chord: 1st finger (c) 2nd 3rd fingers ( the 2 d's )
Little finger for the e note then
First finger ( e ) third finger ( f )
Then the last chord finger as the first chord
It worked for me.

Neil

any advice about how to finger this?
Mmmm,
I've suffered from this very same problem since I was about 17 years of
age. It's usually caused by excessive rehydration on a Friday night, and
often leads to weakness of the left hand, poor syncopation with the
right and a sort of blurred vision, as well as the symptoms you mention,

When I bought mine I was advised to use egg white to clean the
soundboard, but I'm going to leave it as I think it adds a bit of
character to the instrument. I was also advised not to varnish or stain
the soundboard as it would detract from the sound of the instrument.

Hi John,
I picked up the Lute about 8 months ago after playing the guitar for
nearly 40 years ( I still play it ) so I share your frustrations. One
thing that speeded up my transition and helped my technique was to get
hold of my 12 string and tune it to lute e.g. G strings to F# capo at

Greetings all,
It seems that I generated some interest with my recent post about my
transcription of 'Mood for a Day' from guitar to 6 course Lute. My
thanks to those who have commented on it and given me their much valued
advice. So..i thought I'd ask a question, Sting's pretentious album
Hi Everyone,
I've recently transcribed Steve Howe's 'Mood For a Day ' to 6 course
Lute. It is a piece that I have played for years and also features in my
bands quiet spot. I'm not adept enough yet to play it on Lute. Is there
anybody out there prepared to critique it? It is in .pdf format and I
Very Nice.
I wish I could play like that, but then again I've only had my 8 course
6 months.
West Yorkshire is in bloom, my cherry tree is weighed down with flowers
and the bees are busy, could be a good crop this year. The plumb trees
look like they may be good as well.

M,
Thought I'd give this idea a whirl so, put a clip mic on my lute
headstock and ran it thru my FX rig. Sounds good with a phase shifter,
good with delay, awful with a wah wah, absolutely awful thru' overdrive
distortion, great possibilities with chorus then spent an hour messing
