A "stand alone" CDR device with a SPDIF input (aka digital)
and a MD player with SPDIF output will allow you to
copy a MD to CD and keep the track markings as well.
Bear in mind that the MD allows small track divisions (possibly
as low as 1 frame which is 1/80 of a second or something
like
Point well made
I dont want to start a thread on this, but I thought that
SCMS was supposed to allow legitimate copying,
but block "illegal" copying.
Now granted - maybe the SCMS schema itself is flawed
(which I would NOT be surprised at), but if SCMS actually
worked to block illegal
I happen to have "pro" MD and CDR equipment.
Now I really havent bothered to look into the issue, becuase
Im mostly making mixes and thus HAVE to use analog inputs;
I dont think Ive even seen a full digital mixer - at
least not something that has a cross fader.
I usually make the mix on MD and
I thought "pro" equipment ignored teh SCMS bits
Thus all "pro" equipment in effect has SCMS strippers
built in...

Does anyone have experience of installing this kind of remote ?
(..or can point me in the right direction).
I'm interested how it is affixed to the steering column for example.
Does it require modification of the dashboard ?
Assuming you dont have one as its kinda obvious
The remote
Yes - I own the fancy Schmancy MD-2300R dual MD machine
Yes - I bought it and therefore have the "phone book" manual.
No - the error code #68 is considered to be a system error and NO
other explanation is given for what this error means.
Anyone have any ideas?
I was recording a mix, when I saw
Somwhere out there is a page that describes SCMS, what it is and why we have it
at all.
*all* "home" digital recording equipment is supposed to have SCMS enabled.
By "definition", "pro" equipment is allowed to have SCMS "defeat" modes.
What many people do not realize is that pro equipment
I'm still hunting down for either the MDS-E11 MDS-E58, BH gave me the
following prices, does anyone of other sources (cheaper would be good)?
Try BSW USA or other "broadcast" radio suppliers
I think its www.bswusa.com
Might not have prices ont eh site - so call em
Also - BSW has a "rack
Simon, I'm still going through the trouble of finding a reputable car radio
installer who can rig a portable minidisk player into an Audi A4's CD
changer input, (that's in lieu of a CD changer.) I have finally found an
individual who appears to be sufficiently interested as to do his own
From the BSW sales flier (June 99 - its what was on my desk)
MDSE-11 list $825, sale $619
Tascam MD301 - list $970 sale $659
In their "used" sale sheet

Does anyone know if:
1) Sony changers (MD/CD) uni-link can be adapter-converted to work with
other manufacturer HU for cheap ?
Yeah - there are a few ways to do this..
There is a rather "expensive" box that was designed for
use to adapt early Sony chagners to non changer equipped head
unit
and while having the songs blended together is
nice for something like a DJ mix, its a minus not having track markers.
Um - Since All I DO are DJ mixes, I dont mind not having the "space"
between songs. I do radio etc and thus cant STAND the spaces
between songs. Anyway - the reason I LOVE MD

There are large advantages of MD over cassette - its editing for one.
But for now I *still* use cassettes for "air checks" of my radio show
1) cost
This is both as a single unit (reasonable "D90" tapes are typically less than
$1)
and as the second item
2) Time lenght -
Get 90min on a MD
I have heard of those doohickeys where you turn
your radio to a dead station (e.g. 88.x) and connect it to your MD
player. Do these work well? If so, all the time or just in certain
conditions (e.g. a sunny day, or in the country)? Does anybody know how
much they run for?
There are two
I quick peek at Crutchfield...
$449 for the Sony 6 disk MD changer
$500 JVC MD head unit - JVC KD-MX3000
$700 Sony MD ES head unit - Sony MDX-C8000REC
(yeah - it records too - might be nice for traffic stops?)
IMHO - get the MD changer (assuming you have a Sony head unit)
(edited)
... attach one of the accessory cables that came
with my MZ R-50 to the Audi radio line in. I had reasoned that when the
manual referred to the capability of attaching a CD ( changer) player an MD
player could also be attached for input to the radio. However, it seems that

I reported the CC "price up" on the 20 pack of MDs a week ago...

Probably not how you would do it, but since I have a
stand alone CDR all I do is connect the SPDIF output
of the MD player to the SPDIF input of the CDR and
start both up (CD about 1 sec earlier to avoid the
"cutoff" problems)
Much faster than ripping tracks...
I recently picked up a 20 pack of Memorex MDs at Circuit City in King of Prussia
PA
for 29.99. ($1.50 each)
They dont have the "slip sleeve" as the "5" pack box they come in has slots.
But hey - for what I use em for...
After I got to the register they claimed they were mis-marked and
should
As far as I know, the DJ MD players (Dennon's MD2300R and the MD1000?)
try to act like the DJ CD players do
- pitch changed (speed)
- tone change (bass/treble)
The two can be linked so that you can play Barry White at techno speeds
but not have him sound like the chipmunks - something that
do any manufacturers make minidisc decks
that have a carousel feaure, i.e. play 2 or more minidiscs?
I think the Denon MDR2300 will relay play "forever" between
the two units. Never tried it though. At well over $1000 US for
the dual unit - well its not a cheap option.
Most "pro" MD
Mr. Xyz bought and owned a CD, he made a digital copy to his MD for
personal use. One year later, Xyz found that he is running out room and he
wanted to sell his CDs, including which were digitally copied to MD.
hmmis it legal or illegal to sell those 2nd hand CDs?
As a "professional DJ"
Any decks with multiple analog inputs?
For some unknown reason - the Denon MD2300R has
TWO digital inputs on the record side
(its a dual unit - both play but only 1 record)
Its not cheap - about $1500 street price.
I use a Pioneer DJM500 - its got *plenty* of
analog inputs. It also has a VU
anyone knows of any MD decks ( any brand ) that has two MD slots? that is
to say, it can do MD to MD dubbing...?
no PC interface needed. But is has have optical in ( off course!! ).
Besides the Sony MDS-W1 there are
some Denon decks that are "pro" oriented
The MD2300R will dub MD, but will
A user-settable track marking threshold would be massively cool.
While this unit is does not seem to be popular with this list,
The Denon MD 2300R *does* have selectable settings for track
marking threashold.
The nice thing with MD, is if the marking is wrong - you can fix them!
Um - I havent been following the thread that closely, but I recall the issue has
to do
with a CD that cant be recorded to MD... it "clips".
I do agree that the *source* cant really have a "clipped" signal signal (well it
can -
but it should also sound clipped in analog mode as well)...
