Hi all.
I know that the Sony release date for the NZ-1 will be around the 10th of
December. Does anyone know when the Sharp units will be available? More
specifically I will be in London in December and wanted to know if it will
be possible to buy the Sony or Sharp units before Christmas (as a
I had the same problem with my Sharp MT-15. I eventually went for Jvc. That
was back in the days, and I know they fixed that problem later on. The new
Sharp portables are absolutely great.

My advice: If you have a windows pc: Get yourself the line-in plugin for
winamp. Then get youreslf the mp3 output plugin. Run the radio through the
line in of your sound card, and out through the mp3 plugin (use 192 kbps for
nice quality). Tada! Ok, maybe it isn't such a good idea :-).

Hi all. Hope someone can help me with his:
I have a Jcv Xm-R70. It is a great unit and I have had it for quite a while
now. The pop-up cover for this unit is a bit stpid. This is my problem.
It has been ok until recently when I press buttons on the cover, the unit
starts reading the toc
Sheesh. I think we can drop this thread now. This is no place to discuss it
anyway. I'm not in the mood for 'another' holy war. :-)

How come everybody says how crappy windows is but nobody wants to use
something else? I have tried to convert people with no luck. People moan,
but never make an effort to try something new :-( Try anything but windows
(Linux, Mac, BeOs), or that blue-screen-of-death-security-hole OS is forever

Yeah, power to the penguin! I am also a keen
to copy pirated music to minidisc. The Net-MD technology might change
this, although I have my doubts on this. It looks like the Net-Md will be
too restrictive (copyright wise) and too regulated :-(
Hope this helps

faster. :)
It is fine for recording, but for normal playback it is not worth the cpu
time, even on a 1.4 Ghz system. (We've done test on ORDINARY 1.4 Ghz
systems, at it uses at least 10% of the cpu time)

Cool idea. But then why not go for mpeg 4? I admit it would make it a tad
more expensive because now you need a lot of cpu power. But 120 minutes on
one disc? Yummy :-)

Point taken. So this basically means recorders like the sharp Mt770 recorder
is as small as their going to get. Which is still actually pretty good...

2. How can I get automatic track marks on my md when recording mp3's?
The card was real cheap, only R150 (or $20). Even here in south africa that
is dirt cheap for an optic sound card.
Any help will be appreciated.

games onto ONE of these discs. I dunno what the bitrate of md is but, if 160
MB = 80 mins of music, then (very roughly):
500/160 = 3.125 (3.125 MD discs, per dataplay disc)
3.125 * 80 = 250 mins (500 mins in lp2 mode, i think?)

Hello.
Well, there are some that do optical out, eg the Xitel DG2 (does all
recorders, dg1 only does sony portables) but you need OS 9, anything less
Ooooh, where can i get my gritty hands on the dg2? I checked their site, but
there is no mention of it.
Thanks.

The exact same thing happened with one of my previous portable players.
Eventually I went for another model, and it went away. The skipping is not
normal. I have only found it on one recorder, and never again.

The sharp mt-77 has an usb link, that the Sony models lack (correct me if
I'm wrong)...Which is useful for me, cause I need to do some recordings from
different pc's sometimes, and the sound cards on those are not always
reliable.
Thanks

Can anybody shed some light on this. Is this a standard procedure on all MD

Now imagine MDLP combined with High Density minidiscs. In theory such a disc
could hold 300 mins of standard atrac compression, and 1200 mins of MDLP 4
