vent line that goes into the cabin. It's open (on purpose) at

Reasonable is in the eye of the beholder. If you had to haul 6 people camping
the Suburban is the way to go. You'd need 2 190D's to do the same job, maybe 3
if you had a lot of gear.
Better mileage would more than be eaten up by wear on 3 vehicles.

referring to (my ignorance), but on the son's 84 SD there are a bunch of
vac hoses going into a little box on top of the valve cover. In trying
to get the vac working, after rebuilding the pump, I traced a problem to
that box.

If you're referring to the lower manifold to head bolts, I solved that
one years ago on the SDL - use a 1/4 socket set, cut a 6mm Allen
wrench to get a piece to make a bit that fits in the 6mm

The old farmer's race removal trick is to run a nice fat
hot bead down the inside of the race with the arc welder.
When it cools it shrinks, pulling the race away from the
hub. It might take more than one bead to break it
