I have a '77 om617.912, and the shutoff valve doesn't. I've almost no
vacuum on the valve, I can pump and pump and it won't turn off the
car. I don't see any oil in the vacuum lines, for what that's worth,
but it sure seems dead to me.

the camera, and that's because the hardware has no open source or readily

Really? I always thought a W123 300D turbo was more in the 26mpg average range.
I've averaged 28mpg with my '78 240D over the last 21,000 miles which is
exactly the same as I got with my '83 240D over 80,000 miles. Thats mostly
highway miles.
I was thinking that if Peter was getting 2-3mpg
I had to put one in one of my cars, I forget which. I don't remember it being
that kind of expensive but the picture on Rusty's site matches what I remember
the part to look like.
Don't forget the 2 gaskets, at least they're still cheap.

pump. The diagnosis was no vacuum at the
shutoff, as I read it. There needs to be some
clarification, and further troubleshooting. If
you stick a hunk of new tubing on the shutoff,

well for being 35 years old. There isn't any dampness/mildew smell inside,
most likely due to having no sunroof (10 points for Wilton!).
Console pulls straight out, you might be able to get stone extra leverage
(if you need it) with a pair of butter knives.
I believe the clock placement is below three or four interlocked PCBs, it
should be obvious how to get them apart.

Put the steering wheel in the fully extended
position, pull the cluster, unplug the wiring.
Take note of the indicator bulbs on the lower
inside row. The wires should be numbered.
You can make extractors for the cluster out of a
coathanger. cut two pieces 8 or so long and
bend 1/4 back
