just north of the pond in the northeastern section of the University of MN's
Les Bolstad golf course. This is the same pond by which a Mountain Bluebird had
been seen in late morning today. The shrike sang repeatedly.
A Yellow-billed Cuckoo has been calling for 3 of the last 4 days in the
northwestern section of Seven Oaks Park (the oval), just south of the
intersection of East 34th Street and 47th Avenue South in South Minneapolis. I
had a definitive look at its large white tail spots this morning, and saw

South Minneapolis, saw and heard a Merlin flying southwest over 36th Street and
Edmund Boulevard just west of the Mississippi River @ 11 a.m. A few minutes
later saw and heard a Golden-winged Warbler and a Northern
formation
high over the park, 1 Pine Siskin, and 1 Song Sparrow along the northern and
eastern sections of the Trout Brook Loop in the west-central section of the
park.

The Ford Dam Scenic Overlook from which I last saw the 2 Snow Geese at 2:55

Earlier this afternoon Lee Pfannmuller and I observed 2 Snow Geese on both the
Hennepin County and Ramsey County sides of the Mississippi River below the Ford
bridge between Minneapolis and St. Paul. I first saw the birds at 2:10 p.m.
swimming right below the bridge near the western river bank.
At T.S. Roberts Bird Sanctuary in Minneapolis, Hennepin County, at 4:35 p.m.
today, about 20 minutes before sunset, I saw a Blue-gray Gnatcatcher with 2
Black-capped Chickadees about 40 feet above the forest floor in a tall
cottonwood. I observed these birds from a distance of 80-90 feet with

At 8:30 a.m. today (Saturday, July 18), I briefly observed a Carolina Wren in
South Minneapolis, after first hearing the bird singing and calling. The
initial sighting was made across Park Terrace from the southeast edge of Seven
Ovals Park. The wren was perched briefly on top of a chain link
subsequently
e-mailed me about my mistake, the proper name of the Scientific and Natural
Area [SNA] where I made some of the observations was the Falls Creek SNA , not
the Pine Bend Bluffs SNA. Sorry for the mistake.

On Wednesday, July 15, I observed 70 species in Washington County (Pine Bend
Bluffs Scientific and Natural Area [SNA]: east side of Highway 95 1 mile
south of the Chisago County line, and Wm. O'Brien State Park) and Anoka County
(Boot Lake Scientific and Natural Area and nearby sections of

Park, Fillmore County. New or recently arrived migrants included the following:

Bass Ponds, saw 2 Avocets, 120 Pectoral Sandpipers, 25+ Greater Yellowlegs, 5+
Lesser Yellowlegs, 1 Killdeer, 100+ Shoveler, 53+ Green-winged
On April 4, had 40 species and 18 new species for the year, including 3+
singing Eastern Bluebird, several Red-breasted Nuthatch, plus calling Sandhill
Crane at Boot Lake Scientific and Natural Area in Anoka County. Since the

On March 30, 10+ peenting Am. Woodcock doing aerial flight displays at Black
Dog Fen, MN Valley National Wildlife Refuge, accessed from NE corner of parking
lot on north side of Cliff Road 1/2 mile east of intersection with I-35W. Two
Great Blue Herons flying overhead, Song Sparrows singing.
Finch was singing in a hedgerow about 0.5 miles up Calico Hill

Observed 102 species, including 19 species of warblers, in and around
Whitewater State Park and Whitewater WMA on 5/22-23.
