How in the heck do you mount smbfs drives? I've read the Samba HOWTO...
it has NOTHING, and the example in the samba docs doesn't work. Another
problem (or so it seems) is that if i don't put all the machines in the
/etc/lmhosts file, it takes forever to find a machine. I've tried 3

I have gotten it to work. I have both the Red Hat player and the ELF

I posted a message on here about 4 days ago, but unfortunately my
question got lost in all the responses and never did get answered.
Here's what I have. I recently installed Mandrake 5.3 in a system in
which I could never get the soundcard to function properly. I then
removed the card and
I got everything installed (at least I think I did). Now I find out my video
card (S3 86C365 4MB AGP) is not supported by XFree86. Does anyone know of
anything I can do? I can't afford to buy Accelerated-X which does support my
card.
Thanks in advance,
Mike

Some newbie discoveries for other newbies :)
You can run some X progs on your linux box, displaying it on another
machine...e.g. your windows machine. Pretty nifty feature, allows me
to have faxes sent to my home linux machine, and displayed on my NT
machine at work via internet.

Russ,
There is an offical java icq which will run on linux as well as any
other platform which allows you to run java apps, but it is slow. I would
recommend using Licq, which comes with the mandrake distribution (just
type 'licq' at the terminal prompt).
