Hello,
I run 'soundconfig' in an Xterm each time i configure my sound, it
brings up a Yamaha OPL3-SAx driver which it is, and thus makes a mixer
available to adjust volume and the CD-Player then works. Though enabling
sound in KDE Control Centre and trying to play any sounds or having

I started with "UNIX for Dummies", that was three years ago.
It's a lot of fun to read but it can also teach you a lot.
Meanwhile I'm a UNIX admin myself :-)
Still lots to learn, though, but with the " ... for Dummies"
books it's at least fun and amusing and gives you an easy start.

As ROOT have you tried "xf86config" ---w/o quotes, it's a text setup but you

On a last resort, try XF86Setup. It's an old way of setting up X-Windows.
Not used anymore except for extreme cases (with the exception of Slackware

Jero: I've just run "setup" and pcmcia service appears like this: [*]pcmcia
when my system boots, when it comes up to finding module dependencies, it
first passes through "starting network" and it says "delaying

Oh, and when you do; put the highest resolution in front. For
example: "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480". The X server defaults to the first
resolution in the list.
Also, when you switch to lower resolutions, you'll notice you still have the big
resolution desktop, but you're just zoomed in, and

Install the kernel marked kernel-2.2.14-15mdk.i586.rpm instead.
