There are a few howto's on the net but usually it is impossible to do. You have to generally know the area (inodes) on the HD that the files were on and you read a hex dump of those inodes to verify and then you cat that information to a file that you want to save it in. I have read a few howtos

I got that error once, and it turned out I did not have the appropriate permissions to run the /usr/bin/cdrecord command. The command was set as executable by the a certain group, but I was not a member of that group. To solve the problem, I think I just added my user to the appropriate group.
