I am unable to surpass the error of not having the subject package being
installed successfully and so does my Mandrake installation fails as well. I

Try drakconf. Go into the network settings and use the wizard to configure
pppoe. If it needs to install something it will ask you to put in the disc.

Hi All,
I have toyed with Mandrake in the past but never really got it working 100%.
Always had little issues that I couldn't iron out. Now I am back to give it
another go. I want to install it into a Windows directory first to see if I
can get it up and running before I tackle the partitioning th

Hey guys!
I am looking at installing Mandrake 9 on my notebook. I am running win2000
and have over 20 GIG free on my d drive.
Should it be pretty easy, without harming my 2000 install? Would this be the
correct steps?
Insert the first CD,
Reboot the system,

gShield doesn't need an RPM..
It comes as a tarball...
unzip the tarball and dump everything in it to /etc/firewall
Then edit the one config file.. /etc/firewall/gShield.conf
(it tells you exactly what to do in there, most answers are 'OPEN' 'CLOSE'

Hi Frank,
Thanks for your posting! Could you be more specific please? Why is this
better than Mandrake's firewall? Does it also use iptable or ipchains?
and also,
where can I get it (preferably in RPM format)?
(rpmfind does not have it)
Cheers and thanks,

Regarding the BIOS settings, I think so- as far as I'm aware, at least
initially, the BIOS was untouched on both. As of yesterday, though, the BIOS
on the first machine has been upgraded to version 1004 of the firmware, with
no noticable change.
I'll try an absolute minimum install, and see where

Hi all!
We've got two machines in our office, both with identical configurations (at
end of post), which are both giving us grief...
First of all, on one machine, Mandrake won't even finish booting after
installation. Here's what happens:
1. Bootup freezes on "Finding Module Dependencies"

I'd just like to add that I've now also tried the text based install
mode, with the following results:
* I am unable to select packages -- the list of packages simply never
appears.
* Sometimes not all text will fit on my screen, due to the screen mode
the installation appears to have selected.
Hello all,
I am having some installation difficulties with Mandrake 9.

the partitions. It was about to write the partition table to disk when

which I can at a later date "open up" as needed, right? Apparently I'm
