Not very. There are very few viruses or worms that are out there (That
work) for UNIX-based systems. It's reported that there has never been
a successful virus written for Mac OS X.

I have found that all virus emails are getting trapped with
spamassassin/razor/pyzor working for me.
Its like living in a spam free, virus free world.

What are you looking for? Something runs under Linux to scan your
Windows partition, or something for a mail server to scan email
attachments? Or are you looking for something to scan your Linux system?

On Linux no anti virus is needed. The one and only reason to run an
anti virus app on Linux is this situation : You use a Linux box as
a mail server or relay to Windows bo

First it should be said that there are currently very few viruses that can
affect a linux distribution, so from that point of view you probably do

Antivirus software is only really necessary for Linux servers which are used
for sharing MS documents (e.g. Word files) which can be infected. For normal
works
If anyone needs extra confirmation that virii are possible under Linux,
you might want to pay attention to a thread going on this week over on
the [EMAIL PROTECTED] mail list. Someone has written a Virus HOWTO
for Linux, and the maillist is discussing whether they should publish
it.

ld there won't be loads of
Linux viruses around...
PS As an aside, would it *theoretically* be possible to transmit a virus
through an infected RPM?

is true, and the best "antiviri' for Linux is not having M$ products in the

As long as you don't run everything as root, or change the ownership of all
your files to a common user, you should be safe. Linux is not vulnerable like
Windows due to a bit of common sense during the design stage. Note that
Macintosh systems are not as vulnerable as Windows either. T
This just proves the point I made earlier. If you look below you shall
notice I said:
You may see virus scanners available for GNU/Linux -- these are
made to detect Windows viruses (which can't harm GNU/Linux at
all). This can be useful if you have multiple OSs installed
Actually, that isn't the case. Mcafee does in fact make a version of its
virus scanning software for linux--there are others that are listed at

There are no anti-virus programmes for GNU/Linux -- the main reason
for this being the lack of virii for this OS. UNIX/Linux virii usually
exploit security holes in software. In every case security fixes had
been available long before the attacks. In other words, the few who
were affected by v
