Might be a BIOS issue, not a Solaris issue.
Even a 32 bit kernel can deal with 4GB or more just fine.

matter if it's i386, Intel Dual Core or AMD Athlon64.

He meant SATA ATAPI drives (specifically, CD/DVD) drives on Nvidia chipsets.
The sata drivers for nvidia don't support ATAPI mode right now, so unless bios
offers a "legacy mode" (some don't) you can't install from DVD/CD.
