The real answer to your question is no, you have to stop the lens down
manually for metering and for exposure.
The 20mm is lovingly called the Bow-Wow Takumar by some
saying you don't want autofocus or you don't like it is not the same as saying it's no
good. it's an old argument because there are a specific set of circumstances where MF
will consistently outperform AF of any recent vintage, and that is a small percentage
of the time. the rest of the time,
the article selects its data to support its argument and ignores the rest.

I traded for Super A last year. I knew at the time it was a project camera.
Everything on it seams to work with one minor exception. I get the
occasional photo with a black stripe across the bottom of the photo. There
is no detail in the stripe. It shows up once in about every 5 to 8 frames.

I don't really understand - you mean that if the lens is stopped down, then
the AF inaccuracy is neglible? If that's what you're saying, I can't agree.
Something is either sharp or not. Even when stopped down, there's a definite
plain of focus that you can see on the
