Riv sold it as a 58, but it has much more of a dropped top tube than lugged
Rivs. It’s a solid size Large. It may measure 57cm from the center of the BB to
the top of the top tube.

This is a tough and personal question. I think it boils down to the amount of
risk you are willing to accept. All activities (even sitting in your house)
come with some risk. At some point the risk or perceived risk of an activity is
outweighed by the enjoyment of an activity. For me,

That model was built with the fork from a Simple One and it has horizontal Riv
dropouts so it would be easy to set up as a single speed. (I have one of them).

I don't need convincing -- I already have two Rivendells, albeit older
models with shorter chain stays. I know, too, that of course you can
calculate the stresses, but the raw numbers tell only part of the story.

This was all they sent me. Working out the last details on the headtube
mounted shifters (the "Yet So Far" part).
It is a long top tube, long chain stay 650B for my 6' tall, 83 PBH body. I
actually need a custom for correct fit - I am tired of long stems and
setback seatposts - it is somewhere
