I have configured cron to run a task at a perticular time of the day, but it
runs during bootup as well. I wud wish it runs only at that particular time
irrespective of whether m/c boots or not.

You need to specify the lba32 option in the general section of /etc/lilo.conf

Check and see, but most likely your boot partition is located above
cylinder 1024.
I usually see this after compiling the kernel without running LILO. A
bootdisk running GRUB should work fine to fix this. If it's the 1024
problem, I think after booting you can add an option to lilo.conf and
rerun lilo.
Or you could just keep the bootloader on a floppy permanently.

pkgs unless required. I wanted to find out if the samba package shipped with
RedHat Linux 7.3 has ldap support compiled in. If not would that mean that I
would have to compile the samba
