Might be a better way but I just use Scotch Brite scour pads to clean
them off. Don't forget the contact ends. Lose a bit of silver but not
enough to notice.
Paper towel wipe after.

Dee, they will last until they are so thin they fall apart.
Yours just need a bit of scrubbing up. Use a clean scratch pad
moistened well with distilled water. Don't scrub too hard. Then use
a dry paper towel to rub off the tarnish. If they don't polish up well,
do it again. Store them wrapped

Thank you, I got my rods a few years ago from Ode so they are pure, but I've
only been wiping them with paper towel up until now. Many thanks...dee

If necessary, you can clean the rods with drug store hydrogen peroxide on a

That is what I do and it (usually) works.

Prob'ly Ken can answer this best, but a few things come to mind;
The green scrubby's often have soap in them or other contaminants.
Polishing the silver would not be necessary in any case, mild soap,
water and three good rinses in distilled after they're cleaned, a
clean fresh paper towel after.
Possibly, you pushed contaminants from the scrubby into the micro pits
in the electrodes.
Shining up the electrodes just wastes silver, doesn't accomplish anything
and is a possible source of contamination.
.just wipe off the loose stuff with something clean.if even that.
There
I'd say the h2o2 did it, but someone else can take that up.
I'd just like to take up the bit about the scrubbing pad. Paper towel is quite
adequate for cleaning the electrodes, a scrubbing pad of any sort not only is
needlessly abrasive but in time will 'roughen' the surface of the silver
Then, neither electrode will get very black.
If the generator has a conductivity triggered auto off and runs a while,
you *are* making CS.
The strength will be the difference between the conductivity of the water
at the start and the auto offs setting.
If you are using the setup I think

Carrole,
Simple answer, if one of your rods turns black, you are making colloidal
silver. How much and how fast is something else. The black is silver
oxide forming on the negative electrode. The faster the black forms the
faster you are generating colloidal silver. If one rod does not turn
black,
Hi Carrole,
If everything is the same but the generator isn't working as well as it used
to I would suggest you clean the silver rods with scotch brite and if your
generator uses batteries, change them. Typically to get stronger CS you would
run the generator longer. What kind of generator
