I set up an Allegro, magnet wire antenna run external to the boom -
loose wraps back to the rudder.
I have since seen some erratic flying; hard down when it's headed
directly at me (from a turn, not far out). I've not had the problems at
distance, but more like a quarter mile out, under 500
Hi, I have for sale a Graupner Speed 400 Geared with a prop adapter and
a Jeti JES 350 speed controller with Anderson Power Pole connectors all
wired up, you can just put it right in a plane. I will include a $15.00

My view is that no FM receiver is suitable for a contest
environment. I once got a glitch so nasty with my R700 once that I
crashed a new Image 2m. The DSR receivers are pretty unreliable in
my view as well. I once put a Berg6 GIII in a Pike Superior and
watched in horror as control
Hi Jim
You said My view is that no FM receiver is suitable for a contest

Actually there're all FM (Except of course AM which nobody would use!) Even
a PCM RX is FM!
I think what you mean is a Single Conversion FM Rx! They are notorious in

I had these problems when I first started boom wrapping transformer
wire on my Mosquito Hawk.
Wrapping reduced range significantly, I ended up doing 2 wraps
As stated earlier, the R770 and R649 are PCM on an FM carrier. Neither of
these Rx's are dual conversion. I don't know if the R2000 is dual
conversion or not.
JR does make some very good dual conversion PCM receivers. They use the red
cased crystals.
If you are looking for some additional
I flew an R700 in a 2M Organic for several Nationals. I did not have any
problem. And I know that normally means 15-18 transmitters all on at the same
time.
When someone has a problem with an FM RX and a Transmitter with poor range,
sometimes it is tuning. I know some guys who had problems
Let's look at the Rx experiences of the lots of folks. Before we draw any
conclusions.
I think it was Don(?) who cited having problems with Berg, JR and Sombra
Rx's. These are pretty well proven units. Lots of guys are using them
successfully. Yet, Don had problems with each. This is a RED FLAG
I posted this reply to Douglas privately but perhaps it could bear repeating.
It could be the antenna. The only way to improve the situation is
to try different approaches. Antenna theory will not help.
It also may not be the antenna although changing the antenna
installation could improve
Run directly back to the top of the rudder and I bet your issue will go away.

Errr...that was me, Bill. Maybe some of my clubmates in SASS or NWSS
will vouch for me, but I generally use the best equipment available
and do meticulous setups in my planes. My mechanicals are always
carefully done and top notch in terms of reliability. I check the TX

Oops! Guess I better have that second cuppa joe this morning!
The Maple Leave Image 2m was on a JR R700, not a 770.
Sorry for the confusion.

Don't forget one other factor. Landings. Enough hard landings is enough
to damage any crystal, or even pop them out of an RX. Even and ex WC can
do that one.

I use a piece of tape or mount my rx in a way where the crystal can't pop
out. I have seen it happen to guys.

It alsmost sounds like a drained battery the way you described the Berg and
Samba Rxs' failures. What kind of batteries you using for the RX? I had some
Bergs and thought one may have been bad, it turned out to be one cell in the
pack that didn't hold voltage. NiMh seemed more prone to problems
I'm pretty paranoid about batteries.
The Berg6 GIII in the Pike Superior was running on a 5-cell CP1700
NiCd pack that had been cycled and profiled with my Schulze ISL6-636
charger. I always test and profile my packs before they go into a
new plane. I do this periodically throughout the

Thanks very much.
Tom,
I plan on getting toe-up every day after the contest! :D

Bill, I have a friend that has a kit that has been sitting around for
some time. He now has decided to build it. But have missed placed the
instructions and plans. Wondering if I could talk you into making a
copy of the plans( I would pay for involved costs) and a copy of that
.doc file?
Well, I have received 5 replies so far, 3 private and 2 cc'ed to the group.
Three recommend against using it primarily based upon the fact that it is a
single conversion receiver, regardless of the signal processing, and two who
have successfully used it - one at the NATs.
Surely one can use a

Some have a sharp line

nicely laminated curved
spar transitioning between the sections. I have read that the curved
transition is most correct.

Don.
I have used the R700 for years, and fly in around 13 comps a year.
Lots of other pilots I know also use the R700. Never had a problem. In the
annual LSF comp, we have 12 pilots per heat, flying side by side. We fly

Don,
You may want to try the FMA FS-8 Co-pilot. A friend of mine has been
using it with good results in his Sharon Pro. It is a dual-
conversion DSR receiver.
For sure, their M5 receiver has been quite good and is a staple for
the handlaunch guys.

On Jan 16, 2006, at 9:47 AM,
I ran a few informal tests the other day. I set a pair of JR 9303
TXs with synth modules to the same frequency, one on PPM and one on
PCM. Then, I laid out two receivers - a JR R700 and an R770.
Results? WIth both transmitters on, servos on the PPM R700 were
totally out of control. No
