Existe também outra opção pra recuperar o Grub... quando o Ubuntu esta
iniciando ele pede pra pressionar uma tecla pra entrar no menu, entrando
no menu é escolher a opção recovery ou recuperação... ai vai aparecer um
menu onde uma das opções é refazer o grub.

Baixei o Open Office e tal e pá, descompactei-o
Poderia dar uma dica de como usar o tesseract-ocr, pois toda imagem que
tento usar para ele reconhecer, recebo uma msg de erro dizendo que o
arquivo de imagem não é suportado. Tentei com .jpg, .tiff, .png e até
com .pdf e nada.
Se puder descrever todo o processo que utiliza, seria ótimo, para
no 9.10 q eu tinha o brasero tb não reconhecia dvd-rw vazio. bem ruinzinho
esse brasero mesmo.

Histórico,
Bem eu não tive problemas, foi só instalar os pacotes do tesseract e os do
idioma:
tesseract-ocr
tesseract-ocr-pt
tesseract-ocr-en
Após instalei o gscan2pdf e a partir dessa interface gráfica ele importou
minhas as imagens, tanto em jpg como em tif. Eu consegui alguma melhora no
reconhecimento
O que você já tentou fazer para que ele funcione?

$ alsamixer -V all
Fiz também:
$ killall pulseaudio
$ sudo apt-get remove pulseaudio
$ sudo apt-get install esound
$ sudo rm /etc/X11/Xsession.d/70pulseaudio

Recentemente saiu uma nova versão do Skype, use-o.
O Skype funciona bem no Linux, mas é dificil identificar o mic quando
voce tem mais de uma entrada de audio. Aparentemente o Skype elege uma
entrada de audio e você não tem a oportunidade de trocar e daí o único
jeito é usar o mixer para habilitar
Recentemente fiquei sem som no skype. Consegui restaurar indo nas
configurações de áudio do próprio skype e desmarcando Permitir que o skype
ajuste automaticamente Depois vai em Preferências, Som e na guia
Entrada ajusta o volume, tudo isso com o skype aberto e conectado.

Aparentemente o reconhecimento de hardware do Windows 7 funciona bem em
tempo de execução.
Com o Linux eu já testei e funciona bem, tenho o Ubuntu no pendrive e já
utilizei em vários computadores
e geralmente funciona muito bem.
