I have also OOo running under Windows XP, and all the Bold, Italic or
Underline commands work normally. I can modify any text with the special
buttons, or with the keyboard shortcuts. I would try the Options...
but you already did.

I cannot answer you on subject 1 (you should give more information). For
subject 2, it would sure be honest to mention the software you used, but
I don't think that is compulsory.
I a publication of mine, I remember that I gave all that type of
information.

It seems to me that you cannot open it with OpenOffice. You should find
someone who can open it with MS Works and save it in Word or RTF format.
