There are two systems of getting your email onto your devices
One is called POP or Post Office Protocol and is generally suited to users with
a single device. In that once you collect your mail from the post office, you
can't get it again.
The other is called IMAP. which stands for something
as the mail is left on the server unless you delete it. So
if you read an email on one device, shortly after it will show as read on the
other device.

Mail has a lot of folders which seem to repeat Gmail. There's a folder in
MAILBOXES for inbox, drafts, sent, junk, trash and archive. All of these gave
Gmail sub folders.
Then this seems to be all repeated in a GMAIL folder when I
checking on the desk top?

Recently there was comment on Maverick's Mail behaviour. I find it not as
snappy in sending and receiving as the previous mail - but it is interesting
that when sending and receiving it reports on the activity - must be for the
day, it will report 128 of 128 - when receiving 1

email address and password.
The incoming Mail Server is mail.iinet.net.au.
The SMTP is iinet.net.au, when I choose to edit the SMTP list it shows that
this is the description and that the server name is mail.iinet.net.au.
The default ports
with the devices and mail, you could also try resetting
modem and Airport as well. (Or could just be a hiccup with iinet). I get them
sometimes when it's the only account out of 6 that goes offline. Then a few
minutes later it comes back again.
