it rebuilt the mailboxes. There were 34148 messages so it took a while

You could try adding (or removing) DNS settings if he has any in System
Preferences - Network , depending on the ISP.
I had mail issues with a client and adding DNS corrected it.

Mail is working correctly this morning. Problem resolved
I ran the keychain assistant and it reported no problems, then went back and
removed the 'envelope' files Ronni suggested, and restarted the computer. I had

At Westnet's insistence, my mail account having been hacked, I changed my Mail
password. All fine with changed password on this iMac and our MacBook but not

Had day surgery today and I am a little sore.
When in Mail in SL I was able to select contacts by clicking a button.
This opened the Contacts list.
Then simply double click each address I wished to send to.

As you've noted, yes, it's normally done at the ISP receiver end.
As long as you have all correct in your system, which from what you've said
with your computer time, then that should all be correct.
I would think their (Internode) mail server may have adjusted your mail times
;-)

I wear several hats and have corresponding signatures in Mail. My normal,
personal signature is as shown here and Mail is set to attach this one by
default. If I wish to use one of the others after opening a new email and
select it, it is appended below the existing one. In Snow Leopard
