Couple things hit me-
If your piping to the test header is over 15', don't you have to up it a
pipe size?
Got caught on this once by an arrogant FPE in an $800 trench coat. Don't
want that to happen again.
So if you're running the pump test header thru a crossmain, you'd have to
confirm your delivery of the 150% of capacity, not just size the CM for the
spkr demand.

Interestingly, I don't recall any requirements added for sizing of the UG or
yard hydrants, or roof hydrant, if they are employed instead.
And allowing these to be used sort of drops any sign of an intent by the
committee to be emphasizing the test header should be in the pumproom.
The language makes me think it has to work and do what we intended it to do-
enable us to flow the pump discharge and measure it.

BTW, wouldn't the systems be hamered by the weekly test run anyway?
Does any one even go out to the pump room and do this manually, and WATCH
THE PUMP as it does its run, and close then re-open the pump discharge
valve?

One of our customers has lost a couple of diesels during weekly test runs.
Their corp policy is now to do it manually, and operator must monitor the
engine for overheating, etc.
In our most recent 2500 for them (that's gpm, not how many pumps)we put a
horn/strobe outside the pump room door to alert any engine trouble signals-
Since we know that's where the maint guy will be standing, having a smoke.
Ought to scare the heck outa him, eh?

Humm, I see 5.15.1 as a clear definition. The heading 5.15 states "Discharge
Pipe and fittings". So they all have to fall between the discharge flange to
the system side of the discharge valve, pipe included.

If this were not the case, I could make you size all piping downstream of a
1000 gpm pump to 6", even if your crossmain calcs for light hazard indicate
2½"
