While many projects now "Require" BIM, our industry is slow off the mark in
reguards to supplying us with BIM Blocks.

That is if you click on the alarm valve say, you should be able to know not
only the size and type, but the friction loss, all of it's dimentions, and
what trim is being used with it, all of the replacement parts and their part
numbers, then you can click on that trim and know what retard setting is
right for a flow switch or lets say on a fire pump controller, you could
have all the wire3ing diagrams for the alarm guy, all the diagrams for the
HV sparky, and the pressure settings for the pump start and shut off. And
ton's more, basically the BIM block will have all of the info you would
normally put on a drawing plus all of the info you would normally put in the
submittial package, as well as co-ordinating all of the 3D space for all
systems install.

This is the ultimate goal and level of a BIM, right now the software
available is not consistent as one package offers one level of info and
another offers other info. This is a new tool that is still in the
development phase.
