For my 11 year old daughter, at the time, being told that she would
never walk again was the most devastating news that anyone could ever
hear. She had the mentality, for quite a while, that since he told her
that she would never walk again, then why should she even try to get
better. When she started to see improvement in herself after she started
outpatient therapy, her attitude changed. She became so much more
determined to prove him wrong.
If I had to power to rewind and go back in time to February 1, 2005, I
don't honestly think I would change a thing. It was at the point that my
husband and I were not as close as we had once been(I had actually
thought about leaving), I had gained some weight, my 3 children were
constantly bickering and no one seemed happy. One night I was driving
home and I prayed that I would like to be closer with my husband and I
wanted my children to get along better, and if God were so minded, would
he please help me lose about 10 pounds. I kid you not, she went down
about a week or so after that. My husband and I became so close that it
was hard to say goodbye to him when he left the hospital at night to go
home to care for our other 2 children. My son(now 19) and other
daughter(almost 11) have bonded like you wouldn't believe and all 3 of
my kids sit and talk all of the time now. Sure, they still bicker, but
nothing like they had before. They have all come to value what they have
been given and don't take anything for granted any more. As for me, yep,
you guessed it. I lost 10 pounds while Ash was in the hospital for those
31 days! For a while after all of this happened, I was so happy that
our family was back the way I wanted it to be but I was also very guilty
feeling, thinking that I had basically asked for this to happen. For the
longest time, I wouldn't even pray. The only thing that kept going
through my head was "be careful what you wish for". I have since started
back up but still am very careful for what I pray for.

You know...if it wasn't for our darned stubbornness and tenacity, most
of us would be a WHOLE lot worse, wouldn't we?? One doctor told me I
would never run again. Well, so far, I can only walk like a drunk but
my goal is to run and it probably won't be pretty but I'm going to do
it!!! (Darned old Missouri stubbornness....never leaves you...)

This was also the same neuro that told her, at age 11, that she would
never walk again, so she should be prepared and he looked at us and told
us to make our home handicap accessible. He didn't discuss any of this
prior to talking to her. He just walked in an announced it. Needless to
say, we never went back to see him and SHE IS WALKING!!
He has since left that hospital but is at another facility. If it were
closer to home, I would take my daughter to see him and show him how
wrong he really was.

What a horrible thing to lay onto a mother during a crisis like this!
So many providers are smart enough to get their degree but not very
smart in the people department! Jeanne

We were actually told by one Neuro that my daughter got TM b/c I left
her drink bottled water. He said that something could have gotten into
it during the bottling process.......

I'm really sorry to tell you that I had no stress in my life, no
antibiotics, no root canals, etc.,etc, before TM hit. I did have a
"summer cold." "summer colds" can be coxaki (?) related and that has
been directly related to TM, I believe.

Almost everyone has stress...

I would make the hypothesis that TM is related to ... Eating any food,
or even better, Drinking water !!

How many of you drank water (in Tea, Coffee, Sodas, Milk, Mixed in O.J.,
Etc.) before being afflicted with T.M.???

I bet we all did!!

Love You
