Money is--a significant part--of the conversation. And, I didn't say regardless of pay :) Pay is a factor, and time and time and time and time again, it actually turns out to be less important to discriminating, white collar workers than they initially say it does. Yes, absolute minimums must be met, but after that, it is a trade off. Time vs money. Your time vs your employers money. Very high-paying jobs are not worth the time-or-opportunity-cost for some. And, I really hope none of you are making so little at your engineering work that you are NOT able to live comfortably. I bring up money within 15-30 minutes of my first real conversation with a real candidate for the job. From there, the money continually fades to the background because it's NOT as important as the benefits of the job -- cool people to work with? cool projects to work on? commute distance OK for me? flexibility? benefits? vacation policy? etc. always take precedent as soon as the salary meets the minimum qualification to the candidate. _______________________________________________ UPHPU mailing list [email protected] http://uphpu.org/mailman/listinfo/uphpu IRC: #uphpu on irc.freenode.net
