Freedom of the press is a beautiful thing.

On the same line as prohibiting portscan: I just
recently moved back on campus and found that I can't
ping or traceroute to anywhere off-campus. I tried
this on multiple computers on campus to multiple
on-campus and off-campus hosts. Here's my traceroutes
to www.ldsoss.org and www.lds.org (and yes, it was
online at the time, according my cache-cleaned
browser). Is this a new thing? Any workarounds?

I guess icmp packets are an honor code violation
anymore.
