OIT disabled ICMP at the gateway about a week ago. Apparently this is in response to the Blaster worm, which has been flooding networks with icmp traffic, looking for hosts to attack. OIT apparently felt it was the only option to "secure" BYU's network. I'm not sure what would be a better idea, since Blaster was utilizing a large amount of bandwidth for it's ICMP traffic (at one time over 2000 hosts were compromised on campus). I personally am a little miffed over this. Diagnosing network problems (especially those that might be OIT's fault) is more difficult now.
